EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) – Old Principles in New Techniques

EFT, or short for Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a new discovery on a fast-evolving treatment of illnesses championed by a growing number of healers, scientists, spiritualists and lay men. The technique works by releasing blockages in one’s energy system that are the sources of emotional intensity and discomfort.

Working on the premise that emotional disharmony is one key factor in the key physical symptoms of diseases, the technique is used to treat physical issues, including chronic illnesses. The treatment uses fingertips to tap on the end points of energy meridian located beneath the skin’s surface. The treatment is non-invasive and as pain-free as possible.

How it works

The main premise of the treatment is that negative emotions are caused by the body’s energy system. With EFT, the treatment is to clear these disruptions and eliminate the resulting emotional response or intensity to restore emotional harmony and bring relief from physical discomfort.

The technique is to focus on the specific problem while tapping with the fingers the end points of the energy meridians. The combination of sending kinetic energy to the body’s energy system, while at the same uncovering and focusing on the root causes, will facilitate a “{straightening out” of the energy system.

This eliminates the “short circuit” to the body’s learned response or negative emotion.

The system

An EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips (rather than needles) to tap on the end points of energy meridian located just beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment works on the principle of making changes as simple and as pain-free as possible.

The symptoms are either emotional and/or physical. They include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck, anxious or depressed, and the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviors.

It had now been accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and disease. This is the reason why the techniques center on physical issues, including chronic illnesses with astounding results.

It is now often referred to as “psychological acupressure” where the technique of releasing blockages within the energy system which are the sources of emotional intensity and discomfort. With these blockages at work, including its work of challenging the individual, it usually leads to limiting beliefs and behaviors. The end result is the inability to live life harmoniously.

What it does

In effect, the treatment restores the awareness and trust in the natural healing abilities of the mind and body. The provision is giving ground-breaking opportunities in achieving physical and emotional well-being faster.

For reasons that the techniques are very simple, they can be used effectively as a self-help tool. This can empower people to actively contribute to their own healing and development processes.

It facilitates a much faster relief compared to the lengthy and (other painful) hours in psychotherapeutic or medical care which had limited results.

As it is, EFT is drawing attention from a much broader spectrum of healing professionals and lay people as well. The reasons are varied as it seeks to combine the old and the new healing paradigms from age-old principles discovered relatively recent.
